Beijing, China

Summer Palace

Travel photography from the Summer Palace in Beijing, China, capturing imperial gardens, Kunming Lake, Longevity Hill, and classical Qing dynasty architecture.

Summer Palace – Imperial Garden of Beijing

Located in the northwest of Beijing, the Summer Palace (Yiheyuan) is a masterpiece of Chinese landscape garden design. Spanning over 2.9 square kilometres—three-quarters of which is covered by water—it integrates natural hills and open water with pavilions, halls, palaces, temples, and bridges.

Longevity Hill & Kunming Lake

The layout is centered around Longevity Hill and Kunming Lake. Modeled after West Lake in Hangzhou, Kunming Lake reflects the ornate structures perched on the slopes of Longevity Hill, including the iconic Tower of Buddhist Incense (Foxiangge).

The Long Corridor & Marble Boat

Stretching over 700 metres along the northern shore of Kunming Lake, the Long Corridor is renowned for its thousands of unique painted scenes depicting classical literature, myth, and natural scenery. Nearby sits the Marble Boat (Qingyan Boat), an elegant two-story pavilion built on a stone foundation.

Photography Highlights

Early morning and golden hour offer beautiful light reflecting off Kunming Lake, casting warm glows on the Seventeen-Arch Bridge and the traditional tile roofs of Longevity Hill.
